Sunderbans or 'The Beautiful Jungle' is a national park situated on the largest delta in the world, nearly 131 Km from the West Bengal’s capital city, Kolkata. The delta on which the park is situated is formed by River Ganges, River Brahmaputra and River Meghna. It covers an area of 4264 sq. Km. in India and the rest lies in Bangladesh. Sunderbans National Park is the largest protected area and tiger reserve in India and has been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1997
.

The Sunderbans are not only famous for its wildlife inhabitants, but equally for its lush green forest cover, especially Mangrove trees & claims to be the largest Mangrove forest in the world. For exploring the large Sunderbans National Park, one would need a boat ride through many of its tributaries that crisscross through the park & serve as a path to the interiors of the park. Sajnekhali is the main base from where these safaris start. The steamers that are used for the safaris are luxurious and comfortable.

September and March are the best times to visit Sunderbans. Though no permit is required for a ride in the outer regions of the park, but permissions are needed for visiting project tiger areas and Sajnekhali Bird sanctuary.
